Peanuts on Christmas

I thought I would tell anyone interested something I used to hear all the time as a kid at Christmas. I heard grown ups asking one another what is the real meaning of Christmas? It confused me because as a little kid I already knew what Christmas means! Presents! As a kid growing up in the 50’s and 60’s I used to watch all the great Christmas shows each year on TV. It wouldn’t be Christmas without them. Well I think it was in the 60’s when I saw the Charlie Brown Christmas show for the first time. It was real cool like all the other shows on at Christmas. As I watched the show I heard a familiar question asked, what is the real meaning of Christmas? My ears perked up as I watched, and I heard for the first time what the answer was. Here I watched Charlie Brown ask Linus his buddy that very question. And here is what he said,

Luke 2: 8-14

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”.

That was the answer I was looking for, I felt that was right. I didn’t have any real religious feelings in those days and I did not read the Bible, but I knew that was the real meaning. Christ was the answer I was looking for and found Him that night. It took me many more years (unfortunately) to truly become saved and a born again Christian, but I feel what I got out of that show helped set me on the right path.

I just thought I’d share that with you.

Have a great Christmas this year, and remember what Christmas is really about!

All glory to God
