You can hear someone say today, “I see the light” and it means they now know what something means. Someone may say “I see the light” and it means I just got a great idea. Those examples of I see the light aren’t what I’m talking about. In God’s grace I truly see the light. Let me show you what John writes in John 1:5 “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehend it not.” We even can read what Jesus Christ said in 1 John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” This means that God isn’t light or a form of light, no He is Light itself! All light comes from Him to us and everything else. In Genesis 1:3-5 “3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
As the source of light, God had only to speak and light came into being. He also created the sun, moon, and all the stars that reflect God’s light. God created light to dispel the darkness and chaos that was over the whole earth. Genesis 1:2-3 “2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” He put order into this world to overcome darkness, chaos and evil.
For you and I living here today, darkness represents everything that is anti-God: evil, sin, judgment, and death. The light that is God is the opposite of this evil darkness. The light of God is His holiness, grace, glory, righteousness, and His goodness and salvation. This is in such contrast to the dark depths of evil and sin. The essence of light is God, He is completely, utterly, absolutely Holy, and without sin, iniquity, or unrighteousness.
We can see God’s light revealed in Jesus Christ whose light of love shines into lives living in the darkness of sin today. The apostle John writes in John 1:1-9 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehend it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
All who have entered into the light of God through Jesus Christ have the responsibility to shine as lights, reflecting God’s light onto this dark sinful world. Philippians 2:15 puts it this way “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”
I pray you find Jesus Christ if you walk in darkness and the night, for we born again Christians are children of the light, and walk in the day. To walk in the light means to know God, seek His wisdom, understand His truth, and live in the light of His righteousness. To know God means salvation and a better life here as well as in heaven.
So when you hear someone say I see the Light, think of God and His Son Jesus Christ, the true Light, and be blessed.
All glory to God
