Put away your toys!

When I was a child, I spake as a child,

I understood as a child,

I thought as a child:

but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

(1 Corinthians 13:11)

Through Paul’s writings God is telling us there are three important areas of faith we need to grow and mature in, to do God’s work.

They are: 1.) to speak with maturity in our faith, 2.) to be mature in our understanding what we hear and read, so we can preach and teach the word of God and 3.) we need to have mature thoughts to know right from wrong and to fight Satan in this world. It takes a mature mind to know the meaning of the Bible as we read it, so we can follow Gods will.

Another way to look at this verse is this way:

Paul is saying that youth (children) exhibit characteristics that define them as different from adults, and that those characteristics must be cast aside before one is really an adult. These characteristics are not just signs of youth, but are signs of immaturity at any age.

Immaturity at any age indicates that someone is immature in his or her faith and needs to grow up and get serious with his or her faith to please God and do His work.
