God’s Wrath Against Ungodliness

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

(Romans 1:18)

God looks at the sins of mankind with little tolerance. He holds man accountable for man’s sinful nature that was demonstrated by Adam in the garden. God hates the regression and loss of morality in man and his turning towards evil and unrighteousness. If God felt otherwise toward sin, His Holiness and purity would be soiled by complicity with our guilt.

Ungodliness has to do with religion and our relation to God.

Ungodliness has to do with morality and our relation to our fellowman.

Ungodliness is sin against the very being of God.

Unrighteousness is sin against the will of God.

The unrighteous man lives as if there were no will of God revealed. As a matter of fact, the ungodly man lives as if there were no God at all.

God’s wrath is against both the ungodly and the unrighteous. The word “hold” carries the meaning of “hold down” “keep back” or “suppress.” It means those who are unrighteous and ungodly restrain the truth of God’s righteousness.

All of us need the gospel because we are under God’s wrath, which stems from His holy revulsion to sin. So keep reading your King James Bible and pray for His mercy and the fact He gave us His Son Jesus Christ to take our sins for us.

All Glory to God
